Description

A little sketch I drew earlier last week to cope with things...

Last Saturday, just over a week ago, I had an accident while playing a game with some friends. I went to the ER and found out I had a pretty bad fracture in my left foot - a Lisfranc fracture - which basically means I'm going to need surgery to re-align some bones and fuse a few bones together, or else I'm going to get really bad arthritis later on.

So, as a warning - As fun and silly as it is, balloon ball soccer can be dangerous. Seriously, as with any sport, have fun, but please be careful.

This was really hard news for me to take at first because I had just graduated from college, and was planning on spending a year to work hard with figure skating. I was finally starting to improve a lot on my skating, once I could focus on it full-time. I was hoping to make it out to the US Sectional Championships this fall, and hopefully to the National Championships next year. With a single poor decision, I got myself seriously injured and completely shattered all of my plans for this year. I was even worried about whether or not I can skate competitively again, but I'm over that fear now. I can't think about what life will be like after this injury yet, and I'm done with feeling guilty and regretting making the decision that got me into this mess. Now, I just have to focus on recovering one step at a time (okay, I can't even take "steps" right now, but anyway), and do my best to recover as completely as possible. And be super patient.

First step: Get the swelling down. Surgery is tentatively scheduled for August 27. The more I can get the swelling down (through resting and elevating the foot), the easier it'll be for them to do the surgery, and the less stress it'll put on my skin.

Okay, that's enough squeamish thoughts for now.

On the plus side, now I have plenty of time to study for graduate school exams and get certified as an engineer-in-training. And for reading and doing artwork, when I'm not unconscious from all the pain meds I'll be taking... :XD:

Also, it's actually the left foot, not the right, but I'm not familiar enough with human anatomy to know how to switch the legs from the reference picture I was using.

I think this picture has a lot of meaning, "A picture says a thousand words". I know this is an old post but I hope you're doing great and you'll  be skating again :D!
