Ghostly trees by MidnightTiger8140 Ghostly trees by MidnightTiger8140
Ninth in a series of paintings based on the photography of Sebastian Ventrone. Originally there were going to be 10, but I'm kind of burnt out, and I need to start getting ready for grad school, so this will have to be the final one.

I challenged myself to rely more on form to portray the image. Originally I was just going to use wire to help create a raised/textured surface, but I got a little carried away...
It took me months to get all the stuff in white done, and like one minute to do that little black tree. And I like the black tree better. Funny how things happen that way.

Media: White and black acrylic paint & floral wire on an 8"x10" canvas. No glue used for assembly.

It is a wonderful combination of painting with a sculpture, which created a great 3D art!
The foreground and the background complete each other. The background is black and flat tree whereas the foreground is this nice white installation, which not only is pretty by itself but is also casting a shadow on a background.
I also like that you added a bush on the right side of the background. I think it makes the piece more balanced. If I imagine it without this dark spot I feel that it would be too centered.
The whole idea of this piece is very creative and innovative.
Unlike you I like this white tree a little bit more :) I don't mean that there is something wrong with this black one, but I really appreciate how well you made this tree shape out of wires :) The shape is very realistic.

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide feedback! I'm glad you picked up on the detail of the bushes to the right :D
I'm also really glad you liked the white tree. I think when I look at it, I just remember how much I struggled with it, which might be why I'm a little biased against it. One of these days, I'll stop holding a grudge against it =P

Wow. I really, really love this!
The combination between painting an crafting is just perfect!
The painting has such a simple and yet great composition. The tree und n the fron has a very dynamic form, reaching out of the painting, not just pysically, but also on the sides.
I love how you did the trunk, because it looks very broad, eventhough you mainly just used a few thin wires to create it.
It looks really great, how naturally the wires go over into the paint at the roots of the tree.
The colour-scheme is extremely simple, yet harmonise perfectly. The small dark tree in the background is essential to the paintings composition and givea the picture ao much depth.I also really like, that the wire itself is casting a shadow pn the canvas, so itwasn't even necessary to draw the tree's shadow.
I think this work is just perfect, there is nothing to improve about it. It is really creative and jusr great!

There are wires extending from the branches that overhang the edges of the canvas and off the roots. I wrapped them around the back of the canvas, and I took a few extra pieces of wire and attached them to each other behind the canvas. Somehow miraculously it stays on... although we'll see how it fares with hanging it up for long periods of time. :XD: (Since there is no wire running over the top of the canvas, I'd be really curious about seeing how long the wire tree can cling on.)

Thank you! ^-^
To be honest, I was a little intimidated by this because I haven't done a lot of work with wire. It's good to push yourself to take little artistic risks every once in a while ^^"
