Description

What an incredible journey it's been... One year ago, I painted "Summer corn sunset," a little acrylic painting done on a 5x7" canvas board: fav.me/d98dn8x

I didn't explain this earlier, partly because I wasn't quite certain it was going to happen. I've been working on a series of paintings with Mr. Sebastian Ventrone :iconstmv: , a software engineer and professional photographer I met in May 2015. His son went to high school and college with me, and by chance Mr. Ventrone and I happened to sit next to each other at an engineering event at my college.

I fractured my foot in August 2015, and a friend bought me an incredibly generous gift of 32 bottles of paint, several canvases and canvas boards, and a cool box/suitcase to contain it all in. The night before my surgery - I had 4 screws put in my foot (they're still there, although I've managed to break one - my bones are fine, though =P ) - I saw a stunning photo by Mr. Ventrone on Facebook, and decided to paint it. I showed it to him and asked him if it was okay for me to use his photography as inspiration for painting, and he became really excited and proposed that we put together a collaborative project. I would do a series of paintings based on his photos, and he'd overlay them in Photoshop to create photograph/painting "fusions." Hence, Project Fusion was born.

Now, over a year and 9 Project Fusion paintings later, we've finally started assembling the painting/photo/fusion displays. Mr. Ventrone has been talking with the local art council to see if we can showcase the art in an exhibit downtown. We were looking back on my paintings - I haven't seen them in months, since I left for graduate school - and we decided that I should try redoing the first piece. All the other paintings are 8x10 inches in size, and the original corn sunset painting was only 5x7 inches - hardly a displayable piece.

So, here is my remake of the original painting that spurred this whole project. Hopefully, it will amount to something ^^"
And if not, at the very least, it's been an incredible artistic journey in the process.

Medium: Acrylic paint and acrylic glaze on an 8x10" canvas
Time: Painted over 3 days; not sure how many hours.
